In addition to the Acer Aspire 3750 Consumer Subnotebook, Acer also brings to the table another subnotebook, the 3830TG. While its 13.3″ screen (1366 x 768 pixels, Glare-Type) might make it the smallest member of the Timeline series, it doesn’t necessarily make it a weakling. Within the case, the Intel Core i5-2410M dual-core processor and Nvidia GeForce GT 540M dedicated graphics card provide the basis to make 3830TG the “little laptop that could”. With a bit more cash, you can choose the configuration with an Intel Core i7-2620M and a 120 GB solid state drive (SSD). Read the rest of this entry »

Acer Aspire 5830TG
May 19th, 2011 | Author: Administrator
The new models of the Acer Aspire TimelineX series celebrated their debut at the CeBIT 2011 in Hannover. The latest generation has a new look, but overall Acer has remained faithful to the original design of the TimelineX series. Some things have stayed the same, such as the matt case surface and aluminium display cover. New features include “isolation” keyboards, with chiclet keys. As accustomed, the laptops will be available in three display sizes: 13.3 (3830TG), 14 (4830TG) and 15.6 inches. Overall, the new TimelineX generation looks very similar to the luxury models from the Acer Aspire Ethos series. We tested the Acer 5830TG, which has a 15.6 inch display, a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and a glossy surface. Read the rest of this entry »

Acer Aspire AS5253-BZ661
May 17th, 2011 | Author: Administrator
The Acer Aspire AS5253-BZ661 ($469.99 list at Costco) is a full-size desktop replacement laptop running on netbook parts. Those parts aren’t Intel Atom based (which doesn’t exist in anything beyond a 12-inch laptop) Rather, it uses what AMD calls an accelerated processing unit (APU), which puts the processor and graphics on a single chip. Based on AMD’s Fusion technology, this super cheap laptop is more powerful than your average Intel-Atom netbook. It’s a perfectly fine laptop for general-purpose tasks, such as Web surfing, office productivity, and light photo editing, and the price break ($469.99) and battery yields make this a solid second laptop. Acer Iconia Tab W500P-BZ841
May 13th, 2011 | Author: Administrator
The Acer Iconia Tab W500 works in several potentially good ideas, undone by half-baked physical design that makes it needlessly frustrating to use.
Windows tablets have been around for years, in the form of slates and convertible laptops with touch-screen lids that rotate and fold down over the keyboard. To date, many of these have been disappointing, largely because they failed on either the software or hardware fronts, or both. TheWindows OS is simply not designed for fingertip (or even stylus) input, and the CPUs used to power most Windows tablets have been so underpowered as to make these devices mostly useless. Acer Aspire 5745DG

3D is the latest trend. It’s a standard feature on the majority of high-end TVs, with the most recent example being the stunning 21:9 Philips Cinema 58PFL9955H. As one would expect, it can also be found on monitors. In fact, we reviewed one of the first of these – Zalman’s M2020W Trimon 3D – back in 2008. Inevitably, 3D has also made its way to laptops, and today we’re looking at Acer’s 15.6in Aspire 5745DG, which comes with a 3D-capable screen and Nvidia-branded glasses. Read the rest of this entry
